Food 2 Kids
Food 2 Kids is a ministry dedicated to providing weekend meals to children with deprived home conditions. Our Connectional Ministry, includes our church and the other Methodist Churches in Habersham County. We proudly support this ministry! During the school year, volunteers package food on Thursdays at 9:00am at Ebenezer UMC in Hollywood. Delivery teams from the United Methodist Churches in the county rotate monthly to drop off the meals at schools.
If you would like to make a donation or volunteer, contact the Church Office. $275 will feed one child each weekend for an entire school year. Donations of any amount are appreciated!
Bridging the Food Gap
In 1995 a school nurse in Little Rock, Arkansas, asked the local food bank for help after realizing that students complaining about stomach pains and dizziness were suffering from hunger. What resulted was a weekend food program that has been modeled across the country.
In January 2008, the Junior League of Athens and the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia launched the Food 2 Kids program to help local children at risk of going hungry over the weekend. Since that time, the program has grown from 80 participants to over 3,000
Food 2 Kids
The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia offers a special program aimed at closing the hunger gap for needy schoolchildren in Clarke, Barrow, Stephens, Jackson, Rabun, Oglethorpe, Banks, Madison, Hart, White and Habersham counties. Every week Food 2 Kids distributes sacks of kid-friendly food to children who might not otherwise have enough to eat over the weekend.
Help us show these kids that their community cares, because no child should be worried about their next meal.

Feeding Our Children
School isn’t just a place for learning for some of our most impoverished students it is also the only reliable source of food in their lives. The sad truth is that from Friday afternoon until they return to school Monday morning some of these children may not know if, or how much, they will get to eat.
Food 2 Kids was created to help bridge this food gap for some of our community’s neediest kids.
Sacks of kid-friendly food — enough for at least six meals — are handed out every week to children identified by school teachers and counselors as being the most in need.
Launched in January 2008, F2K started out modestly by providing weekly food sacks to roughly 80 students. Currently we serve over 3,000 students in eleven counties.
With the program’s administrative costs covered, 100 percent of donations go directly toward purchasing food and getting it into the hands of hungry children.
Whats in the Bag?
The disposable sacks have approximately 6-8 lbs. of food — enough for two days of meals. The kid-friendly food is in easy-to- open packaging and doesn’t require cooking. Some of the food items include:
Ravioli, Chicken Noodle, and Beefaroni
Tuna or Chicken Salad and crackers
Applesauce/Fruit cups
Peanut butter
Cereal
Milk in shelf-stable cartons
Fruit Juice
Snack
Oatmeal or Grits
Granola bars
Pudding

Each community is different and those that live there best know the needs of each community. Other key partnerships include:
School Districts Church, Corporate, Civic, & Benevolent Organizations
There are many different volunteer opportunities for individuals — from packing food bags to organizing food drives. So, please join us in the effort to end hunger. Together we can make a difference in the lives of our children.
